How to view package transaction history in Linux

Review past install, update, and remove actions with dnf history and the apt logs.

See what was installed, updated, or removed and when. dnf keeps a queryable history you can also undo; apt logs to text files.

# RHEL / Oracle Linux
dnf history
dnf history info <id>

# Debian / Ubuntu
less /var/log/apt/history.log
zless /var/log/apt/history.log.*.gz

# Undo a dnf transaction (see the guarded update script first)
# sudo dnf history undo <id>
