How to add a disk to an LVM volume group in Linux
Add capacity to a volume group by initializing a new disk as a physical volume and extending the VG with vgextend.
Grow a volume group by adding another disk, so logical volumes have room to extend. Run as root.
pvcreate initialises the new disk and will erase it, so make sure it is the correct empty device. Extending the VG itself is safe and does not touch existing data.
# 1. Initialise the new disk as a physical volume
sudo pvcreate /dev/sdc
# 2. Add it to the volume group
sudo vgextend <vg> /dev/sdc
# Verify the VG now has more free space
sudo vgs <vg>
sudo pvsLinuxLVMvgextend
